Music in Worship

The Choir of Christ Church Pompton
Music has been at the heart of Anglican worship for centuries. From the ancient plainchant  of the early church to the soaring hymns of the English cathedral tradition, Anglicans have always believed that singing is not a performance but a form of prayer, one that engages the whole person and draws a congregation more deeply into the presence of God. At Christ Church, we are proud to carry that tradition forward.

Our Choir is vital to the worship of God at Christ Church Pompton. The adult choir leads the liturgy from September through June, drawing on a varied repertoire that spans plainchant, classic Anglican hymnody, and contemporary sacred music. Members are hospitable and welcoming to all who wish to join them in singing to God's glory. No audition is required, just a willing voice and a generous spirit.

Children's Music
On Family Sundays, the children of our Sunday School raise their voices in anthem. They rehearse throughout the month with our Director of Music, building confidence and discovering the joy of lifting a song in worship. We understand the vicissitudes of growing up. The experience is designed to be as stress-free and affirming as possible: no pressure, no perfection required, just the beautiful, unrepeatable sound of young people singing to the glory of God.

The St. Michael Choir
Christ Church is excited to welcome a new voice to our worship: handbells. Our bell choir is a multi-generational gathering open to anyone who can count to six. Really. The ability to read music is not required, and if you want to play more than one bell, you just need to know the difference between red and blue. The group will rehearse together for about five weeks before participating in worship, so there is no long-term commitment, just a short, joyful season of making music together. If you have ever wondered whether your wrist can snap a handbell (it probably can), Fr. Dave will be leading the group and is happy to let you give it a try. Come ring with us. With intense gratitude for the gift, the choir will be called the St Michael Choir.
